why is gundam so romantic?

so i've been working at my desk with a tv in front that hasn't been turned on for the last 2.5 years (and 3 different apartmennts). going back-and-forth between work and this site soured my indulgence wtih music and yt. so why not resume the shows?

so i'm here trying to spin up fire html and css with gundam unicorn playing from my crunchyroll trial. and let me tell you, when the gundam comes out and the "iconic" gundam is spoken, my vision blurs tf up as the credits pop up in my peripheral.

that's not to say the scene isn't epic af but it reminds me how poetic and dreamy this franchise is. yes, gundam at times can be michael-bayesque (honestly, the sound design goes crazy with the laser beams and jets) but to chronic gundam wters, it encapuslates humanity's constant dance with morality, deatth, and hope. you see, gundams doesn't save everyone no matter how operpowered they are. in fact, the gundam pilots often find themselves overwhelmed by the shit happening around them. it's never the random colony being blown up that fucks them up. it's more of the human greed that corrupts even the best intentions. it's never the gundam destroying the enemy being thhe solution and even if things are diplomatically resolved, many of these shows ends a bit worse than bittersweet.

but like the shooting star these gundams seem like in the sky, these shows are consistent about one thing:

despite what bullshit and fuckery people pull out of their ass, humans are also capable of setting aside their differences, even for a fleeting moment, in hope and belief of human nature's better side.

and i'm tearing up finishing this as the fuckin ending song starts playing again. even when the episode ends with wailing civilians and crashing spaceships, the ending (and intro songs) always swept in about hope and shit. you can check my more formal intro on gundam in the main archive but saying it here, gundam is a better love story than twilight.
