syria - the new yorker

damascus, the capital of syria, is the oldest existing city in human civilization. the history runs deep here, going back to pre-judaism and even before that as well.

it's saddening because syria and the rest of the middle east holds so much of the past that we can appreciate during a time of mobile phones and virtual reality. and now, even though the assad regime as fallen and peace has settled within the country, syria remains with historial landmarks filled with bodies. barely glimmering with hope.

and not just syria. jordan, sudan, and even iran have been razed through in the last century. so many relics and records of the past lost. it reminds me of the library of alexandria being burned down. so much of humanity's progress was lost that society went to the dark age. it makes me wonder if we're having multiple incidents of such with syria and other parts of the world. it's hard to quantify since these events happened so recently but i assume we will look back and lament on how much we've lost over senseless violence and greed.

tangent done here. i'm just going to lamenting that i'll never be able to see what syria had stored throughout its lifespan and how its civlians will need to build up again. like it was the dark ages again.
