the heroic industry of the brothers grimm

tagging the hudson review, a writing review, which makes some of the most thoughtful and comprehensive notes on writers from all over.

this is one hell of a review because often times, fairy tales, fables, and legends are brushed off as a part of kindergarten reading time. the obvious here is that these literary works are way darker than most remember. bluebeard burying the wives he murder in his castle basement, sleeping beauty sleeping eternally as her kingdom crumbles, or merlin getting seduced into an eternal trap to set up the downfall of king arthur -- are a few examples of shit like this.

but the lesser of the obvious is that these are beautifullly written, especially those written from the grim brothers. they're magically conveying not only the universes that these characters live in, but their actions and inner conflict as well. snobby as it sounds, the prose and detail is lost in the adaptations that we all know the grimm's works from (disney movies).

i highly recommend reading these tales. and the review. david mason does one hell of a job commemorating the grimm brothers' legacy.
